Coastwatch 2024 autumn survey data cleanup log
- Began with file Coastwatch All Ireland Survey_2024_ALL RESULTS_241116.xlsx which Karin emailed to Paul and Eoin on 29 December 2024.
- Generated a new column A, called “COMBINED_C”, which is in the same format as the survey unit field of the same name in the ESRI shapefile from Angel, CW_Survey_Units.shp: NxNxNxNx (e.g. 8x3x5x9x for a survey unit in Fingal called “Barnageeragh Cove (part)”).
- Removed any characters from the A1 fields which were wrong (e.g. 8x3x4x7 in the Block Code and Unit Code of North Loughshinny and “13 & 14 - Galway + Galway South & City” in the County Code for Galway units).
- Galway units were all made 13.
- WARNING: Where people submitted data about more than one survey unit in one go, it's just reduced to the first unit (e.g. if they wrote “7-9”, which is 1.5km of coast, it've made it only 7 – so it appears to be just a 500m stretch. I think there was only one or two like that.
- Where two surveyors have the same exact survey unit but a different name of survey unit or area (A2), I've moved one of them on by one. Infinite hotel… Don't have the time now to figure out if 8x8x2x1 is Woodstown Beach or Saratoga.
