MoRe4nature aims to trigger transformative change in conservation efforts related to zero_pollution, biodiversity_protection and deforestation_prevention by positioning citizens and communities as key actors in environmental_compliance_assurance.

Environmental degradation continues to worsen globally and in Europe:

• Pollution remains the largest environmental cause of premature deaths and disease in the EU ¹⁾.
• Biodiversity loss affects freshwater, terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
• Deforestation accelerates climate change and ecosystem collapse.

Despite existing legislation, environmental compliance assurance still lacks sufficient:

• data availability,
• public awareness,
• citizen action.

Only about 20% of data used for EU Habitats Directive reporting originates from robust surveys, with large shares relying on expert judgement or insufficient evidence.

citizen_science and citizen_generated_data provide innovative pathways for:

• joint data production,
• improved monitoring coverage,
• citizen empowerment,
• conflict resolution and trust-building.

However, uptake barriers persist, including:

• lack of trust in CGD,
• uncertainty about data use,
• weak integration into policy systems,
• limited capacity and shared methodologies.
