Environmental compliance assurance interventions
Environmental compliance assurance consists of three complementary intervention types 1):
Compliance promotion
Actions undertaken by authorities to:
- help individuals and organisations comply,
- prevent infringements,
- reduce environmental harm.
Includes guidance, advice, awareness raising, and “crime-proofing” legislation.
Compliance monitoring
Inspection, surveillance and investigation activities to:
- verify compliance,
- detect and characterise infringements.
Follow-up and enforcement
Actions responding to detected infringements, including:
- administrative measures,
- civil law enforcement,
- criminal prosecution,
- remediation of damage.
MoRe4nature strengthens citizen participation across all three intervention types.
